Election Commission approves of Govt's move to lower voting age
The Election Commission of Malaysia, abbreviated SPR or EC, is a commission set up for the purpose of ensuring fair and equitable operations in undertaking the Malaysian General Elections. Its establishment is mandated by executive order of Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad. The Election Commission falls under the purview of the Prime Minister's Department. Following Najib Tun Razak's rise to power as the 6th Prime Minister of Malaysia, the Election Commission was heavily influenced by the previous governing party (UMNO) and was involved in various corruption, gerrymandering and malapportionment acts.
