The New York State Senate is the upper house of the New York State Legislature. There are 63 seats in the Senate, and its members are elected to two-year terms. There are no limits on the number of terms one may serve. The current format for apportionment has followed the United States Supreme Court decision in Baker v. Carr, decided in 1964.
