09/01/1868 Danish chemist Søren Peder Lauritz Sørensen is born

Sørensen was a Danish biochemist, suggested a convenient way of expressing acidity – the negative logarithm of hydrogen ion concentration in the analysis of protein. The article in which he introduced the scale, described two new methods for measuring acidity. He became a leader in the application of thermodynamics to protein chemistry.
