English engineer Barnes Wallis died. He constructed a special bomb which jumped to the target across water. The British used these bombs in the World War 2 to attack dams on the Ruhr River (called Operation Chastise). Wallis also designed an earthquake bomb and a new type of airframe. He also contributed to the design of first swing-wing aircrafts.
