Chaim Weizmann invented a method of acetone production using bacteria. Weizmann was born in today’s Belarus. He studied in Germany and lectured on the universities in Switzerland and the United Kingdom. In 1949 he became the first president of Israel. Weizmann was also one of the founders of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
