Christopher Columbus discovered Puerto Rico, although he named it San Juan Bautista, and founded first European colony there. The discovery was part of Columbus’s second voyage. He had 17 ships and 1200 men. There were future colonists between them: farmers, soldiers and priests. Their mission was not only to establish colonies but also to promote Christianity.
