Ursula Gertrud von der Leyen is a German politician and the President-elect of the European Commission. She served as Minister of Defence of Germany from 2013 to 2019. She is a member of the centre-right Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and is the first woman to hold the office of German defence minister in addition to being the first to become President of the European Commission.
