English naturalist Charles Darwin published his book On the Origin of Species. The book described the evolutionary theory. Darwin worked on his theory for more than 20 years. He included evidence from his voyage aboard HMS Beagle from 1831 to 1836 in the book. He was afraid of religious persecution, which delayed the publication.
