American nuclear physicist Herbert York was part-Mohawk. He worked on the separation of uranium 235 as part of the Manhattan Project. Later he became an expert on nuclear security and worked for several U. S. government agencies. York was also the chief negotiator for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty from 1981.
