First Rovers Designed by Soviets - It Happened in Space #1
Soviet space probes Mars-2 and -3 ( M71) - unmanned landers, orbiters and first marsrover. 1971
Soviet probe Mars 2 released a lander to the surface of Mars. It failed. Its parachutes did not deploy, probably because of a too steep angle of entry. The lander crashed and did not send back any data. Even so, it was the first man-made object to land on Mars. Sister probe of Mars 2, Mars 3, was more successful.
