History of heart transplants

South African cardiac surgeon Christiaan Barnard performed first heart transplantation. Patient's name was Luis Washkansky. He was 54. Mr. Washkansky was able to talk to his family and reporters after the operation. Unfortunately, he lived only eighteen days after the intervention. He died of pneumonia due to intentional weakening of his immune system.
