Axiom Space's vision and services
Axiom Space is an American space technology startup company based in Houston, Texas, that plans to manufacture and develop orbital space stations. It was established in January 2015 by Michael T. Suffredini, former program manager of the International Space Station (ISS) at Johnson Space Center. Suffredini is also the current CEO of Axiom Space. The company has over 60 employees, most of them with experience from NASA and NASA contractors. In 2018, Axiom contracted famed French designer Philippe Starck, who also happens to be the son of an aerospace engineer and a space enthusiast, to design the space station. Renderings of the habitat show a chamber with walls that are covered with tufted padding and studded with hundreds of color-changing LEDs. The company plans to launch and begin linking a module with the ISS in 2019. It plans to send people up as soon as 2020 but the station won't be ready until 2022.
