Alexander Stepanovich Popov

Popov is considered an inventor of the radio in Russia and some eastern European countries. He actually developed a device similar to the radio. But he wanted to detect lightings. In March 1896 he used his invention to transmit a message between two buildings inside a university campus in St Petersburg. This day is celebrated as the radio day in Russia.
