He is known for the synthesis of aspirin or acetylsalicylic acid. It is widely used for treatment of pain, fever, or inflammation. Taken shortly after heart attack, aspirin decreases the risk of death. Used long-term to help prevent heart attacks, ischaemic strokes, and blood clots, and several types of cancer.
