Heywood Woody Allen is an American director who began his career as a comedy writer in the 1950s. In the early 1960s, Allen performed stand-up comedy performances. Later, he moved into filmmaking. He is often identified as part of the New Hollywood. He won four Academy Awards: three for Best Original Screenplay and one for Best Director for movie Annie Hall.
