American chemist Tracy Hall produced synthetic diamonds in General Electric Research Laboratories. He was not the first to claim it. But he was the first who did it in a reproducible, verifiable, and witnessed way. He used a press, which was capable of producing pressures above 10 GPa and temperatures over above 2 000 °C.
