30/12/1936 The United Auto Workers union stages its first sit-down strike

The strike against the General Motors led to a major labor union and the unionization of the domestic United States automobile industry. The autoworkers were striking to win recognition of the United Auto Workers as the only bargaining agent for GM’s workers. The strike lasted 44 days.
