The 1948 Summer Olympics was an international multi-sport event which was held in London, UK. After a twelve-year hiatus caused by the outbreak of World War II; these were the first Summer Olympics held since the 1936 Games in Berlin. A record 59 nations were represented by 4,104 athletes, 3,714 men, and 390 women, in 19 sports disciplines.
