The Battle of Towton was fought during the English Wars of the Roses. More than 50,000 soldiers from the Houses of York and Lancaster fought for hours. 28,000 of them died on the battlefield. As a result, Edward, Duke of York became King Edward IV, displacing the Lancastrian King Henry VI.
