The region of Abruzzo in central Italy was hit by an earthquake with a 5.8 magnitude on Richter scale. The epicenter was near the town of L'Aquila. Total damage was calculated to be around $16 billion. 308 people have been reported to die during an earthquake. Roughly 1,500 were injured and around 65,000 were left homeless.
