Bedřich Smetana - Vysehrad
Bedřich Smetana was a Czech composer who pioneered the development of a musical style which became closely identified with his country's aspirations to independent statehood. Though a prolific composer, by the end of his life he began to show signs of mental deterioration. His behavior became so eradic, he was place in an asylum and died soon after. The hospital registered the cause of death as senile dementia. However, Smetana's family believed that his physical and mental decline was due to syphilis.
