Jet engine pioneers Frank Whittle UK & Hans von Ohain Germany meet
Sir Frank Whittle
He is known as the father of the jet engine. Gloster Whittle, an experimental aircraft powered by his engine, was, however, third successful jet plane. It was preceded by German Heinkel He 178 and the Italian Caproni Campini N.1. In Germany, the jet engine was independently invented by Hans von Ohain.
