21/07/1923 Canadian-American chemist Rudolph A. Marcus is born

He invented a theory which explains the rate at which an electron can move or jump from one chemical species (called the electron donor) to another (called the electron acceptor). The theory now bears his name. It is used to make predictions in many diverse phenomena like photosynthesis, cell metabolism, chemiluminescence, conductivity of polymers, corrosion, and more.
