13/08/1902 German engineer Felix Wankel is born

He invented the Wankel engine. It is an internal combustion engine using an eccentric rotary design to convert pressure into rotating motion. Wankel engine is commonly referred to as a rotary engine, although this name also applies to other completely different designs. It is used for motorcycles, racing automobiles, aircraft and as a range extender in hybrid cars.
