Roger Eugene Maris was an American professional baseball player who played four seasons in the minor leagues and twelve seasons in the major leagues. Maris was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma in 1983. He died at age 51 in 1985 at M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas. He was buried at Holy Cross Cemetery in Fargo, North Dakota.
