07/09/1829 German organic chemist August Kekulé is born

He is most known for his discovery of the structure of the benzene molecule. It is a ring of six carbon atoms with alternating single and double bonds. Kekulé said that he had discovered the shape after having a dream of a snake seizing its own tail. Kekulé is considered the founder of the theory of the chemical structure.
