11/09/1845 French engineer Émile Baudot is born

He was one of the pioneers of the electric telegraph. Baudot invented his own code for transferring digital information. He also developed a printing telegraph system which allowed multiple transmissions over a single line. The unit of symbol rate, one of the components that determine the speed of communication over a data channel, is called baud in Baudots honor.
