Dalglish was player-manager of Liverpool since the retirement of Joe Fagan in 1985 season. He made his final league appearance as a substitute in a match against Derby. He resigned from his position as manager just 2 days after 4-4 draw with Everton, in an FA Cup 5th round tie. The match took place at Goodison Park stadium.
