Gene Siskel underwent a surgery after being diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor during spring in 1998. Next year, at the beginning of February, Seskel took a leave of absence, expecting to be back by fall. Soon after, he underwent another surgery, which, however came with complications, resulting in his premature death.
