15/03/1986 Collapse of Hotel New World

The collapse of the Hotel New World was Singapore's deadliest civil disaster since the Spyros disaster in 1978. The six-storey building situated at the junction of Serangoon Road and Owen Road rapidly collapsed, trapping 50 people beneath the rubble. Seventeen people were rescued, whereas 33 people were killed.
