13/10/1943 Italy declares war on its former Axis partner Germany

The government of Italy declared war on Germany and joined the Allies. Pietro Badoglio began negotiations with General Eisenhower regarding a conditional surrender of Italy to the Allies. As a response, Germany proceeded with an occupation of Italy.
