01/12/1955 Rosa Parks is put in prison for refusing to give up her seat

Rosa Parks refused to obey bus driver James F. Blake's order to give up her seat in the colored section to a white passenger. Her act of Montgomery bus boycott became the important symbol of the Civil Rights Movement. Rosa Parks is perceived as an international icon of resistance to racial segregation.
