California floods

Many parts of the state of California were unprepared to handle the huge volume of rain and snow. On the other hand, the heavy precipitation helped to refill drought-impacted surface water supplies, including many major lakes and reservoirs.

Waroona Fire in Western Australia

After a lightning strike near Nanga Brook, a bushfire broke out. The fire caused extensive damage to bushland, properties and infrastructure and the collapse of the Samson Brook bridge on the South Western Highway.

Charlie Hebdo shooting

Two masked brothers, Saïd and Chérif Kouachi, dressed in black and armed with Kalashnikov forced their way into the offices of the French satirical weekly newspaper Charlie Hebdo in Paris. They killed 12 people and injured 11 others. Terrorist group Al-Qaeda's branch in Yemen which took responsibility for the attack.
