Tunisian Revolution ended

The Tunisian Revolution was an intensive campaign of civil resistance, including a series of street demonstrations taking place in Tunisia, and led to the ousting of longtime president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali. The Revolution led to a thorough democratization of the country and free and democratic elections.

Enron finance chief pleads guilty, recieves 10-year prison

Former Enron CFO Andrew Fastow pleaded guilty to fraud charges stemming from his role in the collapse of the scandal-hit firm. Enron used to be a highly respected energy trading firm until it was discovered that the company had concealed millions of dollars in debts.

United Kingdom foot-and-mouth outbreak

In 2001, the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in the UK caused a crisis in British agriculture and tourism. There were 2,062 cases of the disease in farms across most of the British countryside. The worst affected area of the country was Cumbria, with 893 cases.

Casablanca Conference

Casablanca was an important strategic port during WWII and hosted the Casablanca Conference in 1943, in which Churchill and Roosevelt discussed the progress of the war. Casablanca was the site of a large American air base, which was the staging area for all American aircraft for the European operations during WWII.
