B.B. King donates his collection to the University of Mississippi

American blues singer and an inductee of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Riley B. King, more commonly known as B.B. King, donated 20,000 discs to the University of Mississippi. The collection included over 7,000 rare Blues recordings. This collection is now housed at the Barnard Observatory.

B.B. King and Muddy Waters are inducted into the 'Rock and Roll Hall of Fame'

"The King of the Blues" B.B.King and the "father of modern Chicago blues" Muddy Waters, were inducted into the "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" which recognizes and archives the history of the best-known and most influential artists.

Leoš Janáček's opera 'Jenůfa' premieres in Brno

Opera in three acts "Jenůfa", in Czech "Její pastorkyňa" meaning "Her Stepdaughter", by famous Czech composer Leoš Janáček first premiered in Brno Theater in Brno. The opera was written between 1896 and 1902 and counts among the first operas written in prose.

'The Wizard of Oz' is first seen on Broadway

The show premiered at the Chicago Grand Opera House and later moved to the Majestic Theatre on Broadway where it ran for 293 performances, followed by traveling tours of the original cast. It starred Anna Laughlin as Dorothy Gale, Fred Stone as the Scarecrow and David C. Montgomery as the Tin Woodman.
