Facebook profit tops $1 Billion

Fourth-quarter revenue grew 52%, to $5.84 billion, up from $3.85 billion as the social network drummed up more interest from advertisers. In same quarter Facebook reported net income of $1.56 billion. About 1.59 billion people accessed Facebook at least once a month in the fourth quarter.

Yemeni Revolution started

The Yemeni Revolution followed the initial stages of the Tunisian Revolution and occurred simultaneously with the Egyptian Revolution of 2011and other Arab Spring protests in the Middle East and North Africa. On 27 January 2011, a major demonstration of over 16000 protesters took place in Yemen`s capital Sansa.

Steve Jobs unveils the iPad

The first-generation iPad features an Apple A4 processor, a 9.7" touchscreen display, and the capability of accessing cellular networks. Reviewers praised the device for its wide range of capabilities and labeled it as a competitor to laptops and netbooks. During the first 80 days, three million iPads were sold.

U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War ends

On 27 January 1973, Paris Peace Accords were signed, which officially ended direct U.S. involvement in Vietnam war and the United States promised to remove all military forces from South Vietnam within 60 days. The agreement also guaranteed the territorial integrity of Vietnam.

The Russian Army liberated Auschwitz death camp

Auschwitz concentration camp was a network of German Nazi concentration camps and extermination camps built and operated by the Third Reich in Poland. The prisoners were liberated on 27 January 1945, a day now commemorated as International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
