James' "Black Leopard, Red Wolf" is published

Black Leopard, Red Wolf is a fantasy novel by writer Marlon James. It is the first book of a planned trilogy. The novel draws on African history and mythology, blended into the landscape of the North Kingdom and the South Kingdom, and the political tensions between these two warring states, as well as various city-states and tribes in the surrounding landscape. The rights to produce a film adaptation were purchased by Michael B. Jordan prior to release of the book.

Broadway revival of musical Falsettos

Falsettos is a musical with a book by William Finn and James Lapine, and music and lyrics by Finn. The musical consists of March of the Falsettos and Falsettoland, the last two installments in one trio of one-act Off-Broadway musicals. The musical premiered on Broadway in 1992 and was nominated for seven Tony Awards, of which it won two.

Schoenberg's first string quartet premieres in Vienna

A large work consisting of one movement which lasts longer than 45 minutes, Schoenberg's First String Quartet was his first assured masterpiece, and it was the real beginning of his reputation as a composer. This quartet is remarkable for its density and intensity of orchestration with only four instruments.

Giuseppe Verdi's opera "Otello" premieres at La Scala in Italy

Otello is an opera in four acts by Giuseppe Verdi to an Italian libretto by Arrigo Boito, based on Shakespeare's play Othello. It was Verdi's penultimate opera and was first performed at the Teatro alla Scala, Milan. It proved to be a resounding success, and further stagings of Otello soon followed.
