Paris fire

A fire occurred at a block of flats in rue Erlanger in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, France. Ten people were killed and more than thirty others injured. A 40-year-old female resident of the building was arrested on suspicion of arson. It was the deadliest fire in Paris since 2005.

MV Solomon Trader fuel oil spil

The MV Solomon Trader got stuck on a reef on Rennell Island and began leaking oil. The Maritime Executive reported that salvors had removed 230 tonnes of bunkers out of an estimated 600 tonnes on board. However, the existing spill is worse than it previously estimated, according to shipowner King Trader and its insurer Korea P&I.

Super Tuesday tornado outbreak

The 2008 Super Tuesday tornado outbreak was a deadly tornado outbreak which affected the Southern United States and the lower Ohio Valley on February 5 and 6, 2008. The event began on Super Tuesday, while 24 U.S. states were holding primary elections and caucuses to select the presidential candidates for the upcoming presidential election. Missouri, Illinois, Arkansas, Alabama, and Tennessee were among the affected regions in which primaries were being held. Some voting locations were forced to close early due to the approaching severe weather.

Markale massacres

The Markale market shelling or Markale massacres were two separate bombardments carried out by the Army of the Republika Srpska targeting civilians during the Siege of Sarajevo in the Bosnian War. They occurred at the marketplace located in the historic core of Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Blizzard forms in US North East, 100 people killed

The Northeastern US blizzard was a catastrophic, historic nor'easter that struck New England, New Jersey, and the New York metropolitan area. Snow fell mostly from Monday morning to the evening of Tuesday. Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts were hit especially hard by this storm.
