Protests against Ukraine government

The Ukrainian revolution took place in Kiev in 2014, when a series of violent events involving protesters, riot police, and unknown shooters in the Ukrainian capital culminated in the ousting of the Ukrainian President, Viktor Yanukovych. Many sources have suggested Russian government support for Yanukovych led to his ousting.

Sony's Blu-Ray wins the disc format battle

Toshiba announced it would end production of HD DVD devices, allowing Blu-ray Disc to become the industry standard for high-density optical discs. Universal Studios, the sole major movie studio to back HD DVD since its inception, said shortly after Toshiba's announcement. Paramount Pictures, which started releasing movies only in HD DVD format also said it would start releasing in Blu-ray Disc. With this, all major Hollywood studios supported Blu-ray.

Enron boss Jeffrey Skilling is charged with fraud

Skilling was indicted on 35 counts of fraud, insider trading, and other crimes related to the Enron scandal. About a month after quitting Enron, he sold almost US$60 million of his stake in the company, resulting in the prosecutors' allegation that he sold those shares with inside information of Enron's impending bankruptcy.

Roosevelt signs Executive Order 9066

Executive Order 9066 was a United States presidential executive order signed and issued during World War II by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. This order authorized the Secretary of War to prescribe certain areas as military zones, clearing the way for the incarceration of Japanese, German, and Italian Americans in U.S. concentration camps.

Kansas becomes the first state to prohibit all alcohol

In 1880, Kansas voters approved an amendment to the Kansas Constitution prohibiting all manufacture and sale of "intoxicating liquors" throughout the state effective since 1881, making Kansas the first state in the United States to enact a statewide constitutional prohibition on alcohol, and heralding Kansas's long era of statewide prohibition.
