Tesla raises $1.2bn on Wall Street

With the company facing financial hurdles, Musk demonstrated his ability to persuade Wall Street into pouring the money into electric cars. It was 2nd capital raise in 12 months. Tesla offered stock and convertible notes in return. Tesla planned to spend $2 - $2.5 billion in capital expenditures during the first half of 2017.

The Republic of Crimea is declared

The Republic of Crimea was established after the takeover of Crimea by pro-Russian separatists and Russian Armed Forces. While Russia and a few other UN member states recognize Crimea as part of the Russian Federation, Ukraine continues to claim Crimea as an integral part of its territory, supported by most foreign governments.

Arab oil producers lift the US embargo

Arab oil ministers, with the exception of Lybia, announced the end of the US embargo, thus lowering the price per barrel. The embargo, known as 1973 oil crisis started after several nations supported Israel during Yom Kippur War. Globally, the price of oil had risen up to $12 per barrel, with US prices being even higher.

Golda Meir becomes Prime Minister of Israel

Golda Meir was the 4th Prime Minister of Israel and Israel's 1st woman to hold that office. She was elected Prime Minister after serving as Minister of Labour and Foreign Minister. She resigned as Prime Minister 5 years later, the year following the Yom Kippur War.

NATO is ratified

NATO is an intergovernmental military alliance based on the North Atlantic Treaty. The alliance constitutes a system of collective defense whereby its member states agree to mutual defense in response to an attack by any external party. Its headquarters are located in Brussels, Belgium.
