World's largest dinosaur footprints

Paleontologists discovered a collection of dinosaur footprints in the sandstone rock along the Kimberley shoreline in a remote region of Western Australia. The footprints belonged to some big herbivorous dinosaur. They were about 1.7 meters long. Prior to the discovery, the biggest known dinosaur footprint was a 106cm track discovered in the Mongolian desert.

Robert Goddard uses gyroscopes to control a rocket

The main part of a gyroscope is a spinning wheel. Its rotation is unaffected by tilting or rotation of the machine in which the gyroscope is mounted. This allows using a gyroscope for a spatial orientation. Goddard used it for the first time in his rocket designated the A-5. It flew vertically to an altitude of 1.46 km.

American physicist Jerome Friedman is born

He is known as the co-discoverer of the internal structure of the proton, which is now known as the quarks. Quarks combine to form composite particles called hadrons. The most known hadrons are protons and neutrons. Quarks were discovered between 1968 and 1969 when Friedman worked at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center with Henry W. Kendall and Richard E. Taylor.
