The song was originally written with Britney Spears in mind, but her label rejected it.

BBC Worldwide debuts BBC America

In the channel's early days, it focused on repeats of popular lifestyle shows such as Changing Rooms and Ground Force. BBC America's head of television programming later stated that it was important for the channel to establish a niche since non-British viewers found the lifestyle shows appealing.

'Ellen' was an American television sitcom that aired on the ABC network consisting of 109 episodes. The title role is Ellen Morgan, played by stand-up comedian Ellen DeGeneres, a neurotic bookstore owner in her thirties. The series centered on Ellen's dealing with her quirky friends, her family, and the problems of daily life, set in Los Angeles.

The 65th Academy Awards are held

The 65th Academy Awards ceremony, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, honored films released in the United States. Unforgiven won four Oscars including Best Picture, Best Director for Clint Eastwood, and Best Supporting Actor for Gene Hackman.

Actor Paul Henreid dies at 84

Paul Henreid was an Austrian-born American actor and film director. He is best remembered for two timeless roles: Victor Laszlo in Casablanca and Jerry Durrance in Now, Voyager. Henreid died at the age of 84 of pneumonia in Santa Monica after suffering a stroke. He was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery.
