A massive fire severely damages the National Museum

The fire, which began on the sixth floor of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry building where the museum had been housed, eventually reached the second floor and destroyed all of the museum's exhibits before fire services were able to bring the flames under control. Around 200 firefighters and 35 fire engines were called.

China Airlines Flight 140 crashes

The Airbus A300B4-622R was completing a routine flight and approach, when, just seconds before landing at Nagoya Airport, it slammed into the ground, killing 264 of the 271 people on board. To date, the accident remains the deadliest accident in the history of China Airlines.

Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant accident

The world's worst nuclear disaster occured in the Soviet Union (now Ukraine). The event occurred during a late-night safety test which simulated a station blackout power-failure and in which safety systems were deliberately turned off. This resulted in uncontrolled reaction conditions and steam explosion.
