Arsenal defeats Hull City to win the 2014 FA Cup Final

The 2014 FA Cup Final was the 133rd final of the FA Cup. Contested between Arsenal and Hull City, Arsenal prevailed. Hull scored in the opening ten minutes with two goals from James Chester and Curtis Davies, but Arsenal came back with goals from Santi Cazorla and Laurent Koscielny to level the match by the end of regulation time. Aaron Ramsey scored the winning point 11 minutes from the end of extra time.

David Wells becomes the 13th player in MLB history to throw a perfect game

David Lee Wells is an American former Major League Baseball pitcher. Wells was considered to be one of the game's better left-handed pitchers, especially during his years with the New York Yankees and the Toronto Blue Jays. He pitched the 15th perfect game in baseball history.

Figure skater Tessa Virtue is born

Tessa Jane McCormick Virtue is a Canadian ice dancer. With skating partner Scott Moir, she is the 2010 and 2018 Olympic champion, the 2014 Olympic silver medalist and three-time World champion. Having skated together for over 20 years, Virtue and Moir are the longest-standing ice dance team in Canadian history.

New York Islanders win the Stanley Cup four consecutive times

The Stanley Cup Finals were contested by the Edmonton Oilers in their first ever Finals appearance and the defending champion New York Islanders, in their fourth, and fourth consecutive, Finals appearance. The Islanders went on to win the best-of-seven series four games to none, clinching their fourth straight and fourth overall Stanley Cup.

Bayern Munich defeat Atletico Madrid for European title

The 1973-74 season of the European Cup football club tournament was won for the first time by Bayern Munich in a replayed final against Atlético Madrid. The victory launched Bayern's own hree-year period of domination, and marked the first time the cup went to Germany, and the first European Cup final to require a replay after the first match was drawn 1–1 in overtime.

American baseball center fielder Cool Papa Bell is born

James Thomas "Cool Papa" Bell was an American center fielder in Negro league baseball. He is considered by many baseball observers to have been one of the fastest men ever to play the game. Stories demonstrating Bell's speed are still widely circulated.

Anniversaries of famous
