Poet Arna Bontemps dies

Arna Bontemps was an award-winning African American author and poet born in October 1902, in Alexandria, Louisiana. Known for his books featuring black characters, he wrote many notable works, including God Sends Sunday or Black Thunder. He died in June 1973, in Nashville, Tennessee, while working on his autobiography.

Writer Giacomo Casanova dies

Giacomo Girolamo Casanova died in Duchcov, the Czech Republic in June 1798. His autobiography guaranteed Casanova an enduring reputation as a womanizer on a heroic scale and he was not immune to the attraction of his own sex either, but there was more to him than that. In a life spent frequently on the run, an object of interest to every secret policeman in Europe.
