Facebook closes acquisition VR maker Oculus Rift

Giant social networking company Facebook announced it has "reached a definitive agreement" to acquire virtual reality headset maker Oculus for $400 million in cash and 23.1 million shares valued at $1.6 billion.

Deng Xiaoping returns to power in China

In July 1977, Deng was restored to the posts of Vice-Chairman of the Central Committee, Vice-Chairman of the Military Commission and Chief of the General Staff of the People's Liberation Army. Deng repudiated the Cultural Revolution and, in 1977, launched the "Beijing Spring", which allowed open criticism of the excesses and suffering that had occurred during the period.

Famous bank robber John Dillinger is shot dead

John Herbert Dillinger was an American gangster in the Depression-era United States. Federal agents, led by Melvin Purvis and Samuel P. Cowley, moved to arrest Dillinger as he exited a theater. He drew a Colt Model 1908 Vest Pocket and attempted to flee, but was killed. This was ruled as a justifiable homicide.
