Barcelona terror attack

22-year-old Younes Abouyaaqoub drove a van into pedestrians on La Rambla in Barcelona, Spain, killing 13 people and injuring at least 130 others. Abouyaaqoub fled the attack on foot, then killed another person in order to steal the victim's car to make his escape. 9 hours after the Barcelona attack, 5 men thought to be members of the same terrorist cell drove into pedestrians in nearby Cambrils, killing one woman and injuring six others.

A bomb explodes in Bangkok kills at least 19 people

In 2015, a bombing took place inside the Erawan Shrine at the Ratchaprasong intersection in Pathum Wan District, Bangkok, Thailand, killing 20 people and injuring 125. Thai police were reported to have arrested two suspects, the second of whom confessed to having been the bomber. He later retracted his confession.

Earthquake strikes Turkey

The 1999 İzmit earthquake occurred in northwestern Turkey. The shock had a moment magnitude of 7.6 and a maximum Mercalli intensity of IX. The event lasted for 37 seconds, killing around 17,000 people and left approximately half a million people homeless. The nearby city of İzmit was severely damaged.
