Fowler scores the then-fastest hattrick in Premier League

In the 1994–95 season, Robbie Fowler was an ever-present for Liverpool, playing in all of their 57 competitive matches, including the victory in the 1995 League Cup final, and a match against Arsenal in which he scored what was then the Premier League's second-fastest hat-trick ever, in 4 minutes and 33 seconds.

New York Cosmos wins America’s Soccer Bowl

Soccer Bowl '77 was the championship final of the 1977 NASL season. The Cosmos took on the Seattle Sounders. The game was also noteworthy, as it was the final competitive match for Pelé, the Brazilian footballer widely acknowledged as the sport's greatest player. The Cosmos won the match, 2–1, to claim their second North American championship.

American swimmer Janet Evans is born

Janet Beth Evans is an American former competition swimmer who specialized in distance freestyle events. Evans was a world champion and world record-holder and won a total of four gold medals at the 1988 and the 1992 Olympics. In 1987, she broke the world records in the 400-meter, 800-meter, and 1,500-meter freestyle distances.

American baseball player Ron Guidry is born

Ronald Ames Guidry, nicknamed "Louisiana Lightning" and "Gator", is a former Major League Baseball left-handed pitcher. He played his entire 14-year baseball career for the New York Yankees of the American League, from 1975 through 1988. Guidry was also the pitching coach of the Yankees from 2006 to 2007.
