The Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts opens

The Friday night celebration, entitled “An Evening of Theatrical Delights”, inaugurated Muriel Kauffman Theatre. Tenor Plácido Domingo gave a special concert, marking his Kansas City debut. He was accompanied by the Kansas City Symphony and Chorus, which was directed by Michael Stern.

Hugh Jackman makes his Broadway debut

The Boy from Oz is a jukebox musical based on the life of singer-songwriter Peter Allen while featuring songs written by him. The musical opened in a revised version on Broadway in 2003 with Hugh Jackman in the title role. The musical played 32 previews and 365 performances.

Metropolitan Opera House opens in Lincoln Center, New York

The Metropolitan Opera House is an opera house located on Broadway at Lincoln Square on the Upper West Side of Manhattan in New York City. Part of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, the theater was designed by Wallace K. Harrison. It opened in 1966, replacing the original 1883 Metropolitan Opera House at Broadway and 39th Street.
