Cyclone Phailin makes landfall on the east coast of India

Cyclone Phailin made landfall, near Gopalpur in Odisha coast. Phailin subsequently weakened over land, becoming a Category 1 tropical cyclone, as a result of frictional forces, before it was last noted as it degenerated into a well-marked area of low pressure.

Peru bus disaster

A bus carrying 51 people (14 children included) fell from a 200-meter cliff into the Chaupimayo River below. There were no survivors. This was the deadliest road accident in Peruvian history.

Terrorists kill 202 people in Bali

The Bali bombings occurred in the tourist district of Kuta on the Indonesian island of Bali. The attack killed 202 people, including 88 Australians, 38 Indonesians, and people from more than 20 other nationalities. 209 other people were injured. Three persons convicted were then sentenced to death.
